This is our 5 year old daughter, AbiGail. She is such a joy to have. Its definately something new every day with this lady. She will be in the show ring this year helping her mom so she can learn the ropes and get started with her show wethers. She absolutely loves any and every animal she sees. The above picture is of her at the Ga National Fair 08'.

We love dem Dawgs.
Here in Perkins, Ga, we are surrounded by all types of agriculture and farming. Our community consists of beef and dairy farms, alpaca and horse ranches, and several goat farms. Being around this area for so long tempted my interest in raising some form of livestock. Growing up, my dad raised everything from pigs and cows to ducks and chickens. I wanted to explore something a little different. After talking to some friends and a few guys from my work that raised them, I decided goats were my choice. So in the winter of 2007, I got a small pin ready and a makeshift shelter and bought myself 6 does from a farm close by. I had no idea what to do when 3 days later I had went from 6 head to 13. Four of the does kidded and the sight of the newborn kids had my entire family out in the freezing rain night and day with complete excitement. We also had our first bottle babies from that pack. After they kidded, I got us a boer cross buck. I started asking around about these BOER goats everyone was raving about. Come to find out, there was a show about a month later and we decided to go. Once we laid our eyes on the breed, there was no mistaking, we were going to raise Boer goats. We sold all of our herd and purchased a small herd from a farmer in Burke county. It was a registered Fullblood buck and six percentage does with 3 pairs of kids nursing. Since those days we decided that selling our kids at the local market auctions just wasn't pleasing enough, so we started buying our first show stock in the early part of 2008. Now we dont have a high head count, but being on this small tract of land and having just our show stock and a few commercial goats, allows us to maintain them to a happier and healthier life, as well as keep a close relationship with each animal. This has been a great experiance for our family because we all take part in the work and the reward, that makes for a lot of quality time. As it stands right now, we are in the process of building our show herd up a bit. We do still have some commercial goats to sale, and from time to time will offer some of our show prospects for sale because we cant walk them all in the ring no matter how bad we want to. Our 09' kid crop of spring kids are done so check back often to see what has changed and may become available for sale. We will be kidding again in the fall. Thanks so much for taking the time to read about our family farm.
